Principal Technical Services Manager
Location: Aldgate London
Reports to: Divisional Director
The Engineering Services business of ISG delivers our most technically complex engineering led projects. ISG as a whole turned over approximately £2.5bn in construction projects last year of which circa £750m was delivered by the Engineering Services business. We are a privately-owned company with strong financial resilience and a growing order book. We are specifically targeting growth in the Science and Health sector.
This role will be a Senior member of the project team to ensure ISG continue to successfully secure and deliver science and health projects.
Review tender documents, assist in the production of pre-qualification and tender submissions including tender interviews.
Develop and maintain relationships with design consultants, clients and suppliers.
Take responsibility for the building services delivery of your allocated project.
Coordinate and line manage the TSM's reporting to you.
Audit the design at all project stages and identify inconsistencies, discrepancies and missing information and record, report and track the close out of these items.
Take responsibility for the production and control of the delivery programme and report against it.
Identify and manage risk from drawings, specifications, design release dates, programme and procurement.
Chair / support delivery workshops with the sub-contractors and client management team, develop the design, workshop drawings and manage the coordination between trades.
Review design development regularly with the Commercial Manager and MEP Estimators to ensure design and commercial aspects are aligned.
Chair / support Design Team Meetings with the consultant designers and record and track information from DTM's. To deliver a quality service and product to our clients in line with the project goals by working with the professional team and applying ISG systems, procedures and culture.
To support the construction and TSM teams in the resolution of delivery related issues in a timely manner to prevent an effect on the construction programme and with awareness of the commercial implications the resolution may produce.
Actively promote ISG philosophy and culture.
Chair best practice forums with our TSM's.
Experience & Skills
Methodical approach to duties.
Sensitive to political situations - good relationship builder.
Prepared to be innovative; prefabrication, modern methods of construction etc.
Understanding of BIM level 2.
A good organiser / system implementer.
Be able to effectively manage risk.
Be able to effectively plan the design programme.
Knowledge of electronic document management such as Aconex.
Good presentation skills.
Prior construction management experience, Structural, Architectural or M&E qualifications.
Industry experience with a track record of successful projects.
In-depth knowledge of the design and construction process, both refurbishment and fit out.
Understands the pre-construction process; can organise and manage the design phase of a project.
Ability to assess and convert traditional designs to DfMA / modularisation and prefab.
Has been involved in large technically complex projects preferably healthcare and science.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and proactive individual who has a background in the delivery of building services on major science and health projects. They should be methodical and have good organisational skills with a keen eye for detail.
Candidates must be able to display an understanding of building construction and sequence and challenge the design to ensure statutory compliance, good practice and to enhance and ensure coordination and build-ability is addressed. This should be undertaken with the ISG expectation to provide a final product that exceeds the client's expectations and provides a final installation that provides longevity through addressing build-ability and maintenance issues. They are to ensure that these issues are communicated to the delivery team and resolved in time to ensure the delivery programme is un-affected.
Candidates should be commercially aware and support the commercial team to identify opportunities arising from design development and equally, manage change control communication that arises from design development. Candidates should also be a key contributor to Value Engineering exercises during both tender and preconstruction phases of a project.
Candidates should be able to present to clients as part of a bid team to sell the building services offer, contribute to the technical aspects of tender documents and bids and undertake business development roles. The Candidate should be committed to building and maintaining client relationships as part of this role.
Candidates should be able to display good time management skills, presentation skills and be confident to chair meetings. Individuals should display self motivation and be willing take the initiative. They should be equally confident working alone or as part of a team.
