What you'll do

As a Senior Delivery Manager in the Expert Services team, you will get the opportunity to work in a range of short and medium-term placements across different departments across the Government’s Digital Data and Technology function. For instance, in some departments you may be asked to play an advisory role, helping map out their digital delivery requirements for a particular service or project. In other departments, you may have a more hands-on role, adding to the department’s delivery capacity through managing a delivery team to support a particular time-limited piece of work where there is an immediate need or resource gap.

The common thread through all these placements are that they will involve you in the

delivery of complex products and services; you’ll be core to making decisions that build high performing teams, adept at breaking down barriers for your team or teams and both planning at a higher level and getting into the detail to make things happen when needed.

As a Senior Delivery Manager you’ll:

  • lead and motivate multiple multi-disciplinary teams, helping them organise and plan their work, ensuring they deliver products and services that actually meet users’ needs

  • ensure teams clearly communicate their plans and progress through their plans using recognised agile practices

  • provide data to help report on the programme to the portfolio and senior management team

  • identify the people, skills, and resources that the teams need to deliver to the agreed goals

  • identify and communicate risks, issues, dependencies, and blockers

  • work with senior leaders in GDS and other senior stakeholders to ensure all needs are understood and to influence strategic direction

  • develop, guide and coach your delivery manager line reports

  • manage stakeholders to ensure good relations and effective communication

  • actively participate in the Delivery Manager community, learning, sharing and applying skills and knowledge to improve.

Who you are

Our delivery professionals work on a diverse range of projects, products and services within GDS and across government departments. We’re looking for people with strong interpersonal skills who enjoy working in a demanding, high profile agile environment. We’re looking for people who are passionate about agile working, who care about technology and who know how to make projects succeed. And we want people who believe that how you work is as important as what you deliver.

We're interested in people who:

  • have successfully delivered complex digital projects and products
  • understand agile and lean methodologies and how they help deliver products and services at scale
  • have a good understanding of the digital landscape
  • are confident with matrix-managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • can promote agile practices across an organisation.

This gives us the best possible chance of finding the right person for the job, drives up performance and improves diversity and inclusivity. For this role we will be assessing your ability, strength, experience, technical/specialist skills and behaviours, the following behaviours are the most relevant:

developing self and others

seeing the big picture
delivering at pace
