Libraries Customer Services Officer
City of Westminster Council - Westminster
The Extraordinary Story Of Giro’s Persuasive Powers
At Westminster City Council, we love it when our work touches lives. Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of – and they were keen for people to spread the word. So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.
As a Customer Service Officer for Westminster Music Library, you can make your own powerful contribution. You’ll have the chance to play an active role in the development of the library’s resources and programme at a time of exciting change. As well as being one of the largest public collections of sheet music and music books in the UK we have new resources including digital music workstations, and our Early Years Music Collection.
The role is varied, as our customers range from enthusiasts and young families to professional researchers and performers. You’ll regularly work face to face with the public and use your specialist music knowledge to answer enquiries. You’ll also help organise cultural events, keep the library in good working order and carry out administrative tasks when required.
On top of that, you’ll have opportunities to take on extra responsibilities and run your own projects, including championing a specific area of our service as a site lead.
This is a frontline, public-facing role, so at times things can be challenging and require a sensitive approach. We’ll also need some flexibility from you in terms of working patterns, plus occasional weekend work.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
You’ll have a real passion for music, printed music and media. You’ll also love sharing your passion with others and inspiring people to learn. Some experience of customer service and digital music platforms is required, along with basic administrative skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a small team.
You’ll also know how to contribute to income generation for the library and help us build a positive work culture.
